Cristiano Ronaldo is a Portuguese professional footballer who has had a remarkable career in the sport. He was born on February 5, 1985, on the island of Madeira, Portugal. Ronaldo began playing football as a child and joined the youth academy of his local team, Andorinha, at the age of eight.
He eventually moved on to play for other local clubs before joining the Sporting Lisbon academy in mainland Portugal at the age of 12. It was there that he honed his skills and caught the attention of scouts from top European clubs.
